Workforce

Richmond provides one of the largest and talented workforces in Texas. More than 350,000 workers live within a 30 minute drive time radius and over 1,500,000 workers are located within a 45 minute drive.

Major industries in Fort Bend County include Oil & Gas, Healthcare, Electronics, Financial Services, and Manufacturing. Richmond has access to a large pool of highly talented workers who can meet the needs of any employer.

Richmond's highly educated workforce is available primarily due to excellent K-12 school districts and post-secondary educational opportunities available. 37.4% of Richmond's workforce, calculated by drive time radii, has earned a bachelor's degree or higher. 

 

Education

Texas State Technical College - Fort Bend County Campus

 

Texas State Technical College recently completed Phase I of its 80 acre campus in Fall 2016. The initial phase consisted of a 126,000 SF education facility offering state of the art lab space and classrooms. Phase II will include an additional 50,000 SF educational building.

Wharton County Junior College - Richmond Campus


Wharton County Junior College has a long history of providing high quality post-secondary education and workforce training in Fort Bend County starting in 1983. 


Customized workforce training is available and is tailored to the needs of the employer. Training options are offered in the following areas:

  • Industrial Maintenance
  • Computer Skills
  • Language SKills
  • Leadership
  • Employee Development
  • Quality and Continuous Improvement

 

Training grants are offered through the Continuing Education Department in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission. Training opportunities exist for large, medium, and small businesses.

Houston Community College - Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence

Houston Community College's Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence focuses on providing training in high growth and high demand occupations such as machining, additive manufacturing, robotics, CNC operations, and advanced manufacturing. 

 

The Houston metropolitan area is one of America's largest manufacturing bases with over 250,000 skilled workers involved in the production of plastics, metals, valves, medical devices, and numerous other products. 

 

Houston Community College maintains existing partnerships with the Manufacturing Skills Standard Council and the National Institute of Metalworking Skills to provide incumbent worker training and specialized workforce training to local employers.

University of Houston - Sugar Land Campus

 

The University of Houston's Sugar Land Campus, located just a short drive from Richmond, is a Tier 1 University Institute. The 270 acre campus offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional certification opportunities.
